Stash Report #6

Where did January go?!? I’ve seen this question a lot the past few days and have been wondering the same darn thing myself. Here’s my stash report for the past week.

Fabric Used (or removed) this Week: 1 yard
Fabric Used year to Date: 8 1/3 yards
Fabric Added this Week: 1 1/4 yards
Fabric Added Year to Date: 8.5 yards + 3 panels
Net Fabric for 2017: 3 panels ADDED + 1 3/8 yards USED
Iā€™m not sure how to count the panels so I figured Iā€™d just keep them listed separate from regular yardage since most of the time they are less than a yard.

Ok, I bought a FQ on an IG destash sale. I don’t think I’ve ever paid $5 for a single FQ (or anywhere near $20 per yard) but I just had to. The opportunity presented itself, I asked hubby, and he said go for it. I managed to snag a FQ of Heather Ross fabric – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs from Far Far Away III. It’s going for so much more online (average of $20 a 1/2 yard) that I had to jump at it when I could. The FQ I got has 1 each of the 3 scenes in full! I’m thinking I’m going to embroider some detailing on it, fussy cut the scenes and use them as the center in quilt blocks, and then frame them individually in the hallway near my little girl’s room. I know if I don’t start on this right away, I’m just going to stick it with the rest of my fabric and it’ll never get used because I’ll be afraid to cut into it to use for something that could get ruined or worn out.

The other yard of fabric I purchased is for the Fair Isle Winter BOM. I was going for one look but while “shopping” in my stash, I came across another piece of fabric that sparked a totally different idea that I absolutely loved! So I scrapped my original idea and started another fabric pull. I almost had enough but I was shy 1 yard of the 14 yards that is approximated for this large quilt. The fabric I bought is the black with tiny white polka dots. I’m also using a solid black for the background that’s not pictured. The blocks are mostly pieced with little applique accents. The backgrounds will all be solid black. The block designs will be done in the top row fabrics and the bottom row will be used only for the little applique accents.

The leftover bits of flannel I had after from making my little girl those 4 dresses got used up. They totaled approximately 1 yard. A few days ago, my little girl came to me and informed me that her dolls (Barbies) were cold! Only 2 of them (the ones that slept in the beds in the Barbie houses) had blankets and the rest didn’t… So I figured I’d use those bits to make blankets. All I did was cut them into rectangles and run the serger around the edges. She LOVES them! Every night now, while we are getting ready for bed, she has to lay all her dolls on the floor and cover each and every one of them up. LOL

Pieces of Clothing Used (or removed) to upcycle / restyle this Week: 1
Pieces of Clothing Used (or removed) to upcycle / restyle Year to Date: 6
Pieces of Clothing Purchased to upcycle / restyle this Week: 0
Pieces of Clothing Purchased to upcycle / restyle Year to Date: 0
Net Pieces of Clothing Purchased to upcycle / restyle for 2017: 6 pieces USED

I did manage to use up a piece of clothing this past week. It was a toss-up as where to put this, but since it came into my home as a piece of clothing, that’s how I’m categorizing it. You see, I purchased this tank top for $0.75 from a Last Chance Goodwill for the express purpose to taking it apart and reusing the fabric yarn it was made with. The day after I bought it I took it apart, unraveled it, and wound it into a ball. I also remove any tags and keep them with the ball of yarn.

Anyhow, ever since I caught my little girl playing sandbox with her Barbies in my potted plant, I’ve missed having greenery in the living room / dining room combo. Last week I decided that I could hang my Christmas cactus over the end of the dining room table against the wall where no one sits. Knowing I wanted to crochet hangers, but not thinking I’d like it done in any of the yarns I have, I set the idea aside. Until I laid my eyes on this ball while I was digging thru stuff in my craft / sewing room. I knew it would be perfect! I got to work right away and made 2 plant hangers for both of my Christmas cactus. There was a bit of yarn left over from which I made a framed mandala to use as a table runner of sorts. (Is it still called a runner when it’s round or square instead of a long one???) I’m hoping to get a good picture of all of it together sometime today. Fingers crossed. lol

    1. Hi Shauna Thank you! šŸ™‚ Yes it is important! We went to Wal-Mart on Friday night and she got a new Barbie that was on clearance for $2. We didn’t make it home til almost 9pm and she wanted me to make another blanket for her new doll right then! LOL I convinced her that she could share with someone else that night.
