WIP Wednesday #2

What have I been working on… I think the question is what haven’t I been working on? lol Seriously, I feel like I’ve been really productive the past week and half even though my little girl and I are sick as heck… There’s been a few nights that I’ve not slept – not even put my head on a pillow. I literally just skipped sleeping several nights – not in a row! But still. Anyhow, let’s see what I’ve been up to.

I did have 2 finishes from my #2017FAL listmy fingerless gloves & my oldest daughters Winterbird shawl. Plus I’m working on 4 dresses for my youngest at the same time. Since they are the same thing with different fabric / yarn I’m making them assembly line style. I made one of these dresses for my granddaughter in a size 2 using this free pattern from Purl Soho and wanted some for my youngest. The directions are only for sizes 2, 4 & 6 which isn’t big enough for my almost 4-year-old. So I’ve been winging it with no problems. All the fabric is snuggly flannel from Joanns. These 4 claimed 3 yards from my stash. šŸ™‚

On Monday I spent the day “shopping” my fabric stash for several new projects I’m making. First up is the Caught Ya! BOM (see button in sidebar) that I’m making for hubby. It’s an applique quilt and I cut all the base blocks from a bolt of solid white (using 2.6 yards from my stash). Next is the Buttermilk Basin 2017 BOM (see button in sidebar) that I want for me. Someone in my quilt guild gave me a bolt that had approximately 7-8 yards of a gray wool on it and I decided to use that as the base for these blocks (these are all applique as well). I’m proud of myself! So far I’ve only used pieces of fabrics out of my scrap drawers for all the pieces for these 5 blocks I’m working on.

Next up is the Diamond Hill BOM (again – see sidebar) which I absolutely fell in love with. Immediately I seen it in my head done with a  deep gray background and Kaffee Fassett prints. But… Seeing as how I only have 2 different 1 yard cuts of his fabric in my stash… Well, I decided I wasn’t going to make one for me right now. But, it’s so pretty! And I really want to make one! So I decided I’d make one for my mother-in-law for her Christmas present for this year. She’s all about pink so stash shopping was easy for her colors. LOL All I need to get is 2 1/8 yd of a solid, light green (for all those applique vines). That middle pink will be the main color.

I’ve finished cutting out all the applique pieces for the applique mini quilt swap I’m in on IG. Not sure what color(s) I’m going to use to sew the pieces down yet. But I know I need to pick up some sky blue for the quilting.

I’m hoping that I’ll be pulling out a sewing machine tomorrow and start actually sewing all these things – the applique pieces onto the 4 Caught Ya blocks, the 1 Buttermilk Basin block, the 4 dresses, the 1 large Diamond Hill block, and the mini quilt. What am I doing today? Hopefully cutting out the pieces for the Diamond Hill block applique, the Twas the Night Before Christmas BOM (also an applique), and the pieces for my mini quilt for this weeks Project Quilting challenge.

On a side note – as this little girl is getting bigger I’m loving the conversations we have. Lately they’ve been revolving around 2 things – her upcoming 4th birthday and the garden. She’s decided that she wants a unicorn and rainbow birthday party!?! (Seriously where do they come up with this?) And, she would like her own garden this year! LOL I asked her what she wanted to grow and she told me “rainbow flowers and tomatoes because tomatoes are good.” ROFL I guess it’s a good thing I already had plans to expand the garden this year.

What have you been up to?
