I know I wasn’t going to buy more fabric, however, when we went on our girls night sleepover we stopped at a really big Wal-Mart… They had LOTS of fabric on sale! The 3 panels are Halloween (and was only $0.75 each), there’s 3 yards of a lightweight stretch knit (that was only $1 per yard) I got to make my little girl some summer things, there was 1/2 yard of a pink and metallic silver butterfly print that my little girl picked out herself (so the price didn’t matter), and the rest was all Christmas fabric that was on sale (for $2 a yard or less) that I just couldn’t resist… Hey! At least I didn’t add any yarn! 😉

Of the fabric I used, 1 1/8 of a yard was fussy cut for 120 hexies for the Pick Your Theme Hexie Swap hosted by @shawngorlich on IG. There’s some scraps left over that I can’t bring myself to throw out so I’m trying to think of a way to use them up. I’m think of doing something similar to Helen’s (Archie the Wonder Dog) Penguins in the Sewing Room. I think they are too cute! And I think Helen is amazing at improv piecing. I’m hoping I can use my scraps up, be brave and just go for it. We’ll see…

I was really surprised at how much fabric it took to fussy cut these hexies… :/ Oh well. Now to figure out what to do with all the little jars and the remaining fireflies.

I also cut 3/4 yd of a pretty tie-dye looking fabric (that I got off an IG destash sale for $2 a yard) for 6 background pieces for the Project Quilting challenges. Aside from the self-imposed theme, I’m using the background to tie them all together. I’m telling myself by using the same background, I can feel free to go crazy with the rest without worry of them matching in style or color. I guess we’ll see if my OCD wins or not once all 6 mini quilts are done…

Plus, it’s not yardage, but it’s pieces of clothing from my craft room stash that I also cut up this week for the deer head silhouette quilt I’m making for hubby. So that counts for something right? PSSST – if you seen the sheer quantity of big garbage bags I have full of clothing I bought to upcycle / restyle you’d agree that it counts. Now that I’m thinking about it, I’m going to go add a new line above so that I can keep track of that stuff as well. 🙂 BRB

Ok, I’m back. Yep, I cut up 5 pair of khaki pants (that I mentioned the other day) that I’m hoping to improv piece together for the background for hubby’s deer head silhouette wall quilt I’m making for him to hang in his office. Or maybe I’ll hang it in the living room when I’m done. 😉 I’ve not cut out the paint stains or little holes here and there yet. I’m still debating on if I should leave them in it or not. I’ll decide once I start piecing. What I did do was to cut out all the seams, the waistband and pockets. I also saved all the buttons, hook & eyes, zippers, and any other reusable hardware. Waste not want not.

Plans for the coming week that involve using my stash include:

  • Cutting approximately 3 yards of background fabric for the base blocks for the Caught Ya! BOM. I’m planning on digging thru my scraps for the applique before I cut from my stash. However, I think I’m going to dig out the gray/silver fabric with silver sparkles from my stash to use for all the hooks for a bit of uniformity.
  • Digging thru my stash ISO 2 different blues (at least 3 yards & 3.5 yards) for a snowman quilt I’m making. I’m thinking (hoping) that I have some that like for this project and that are big enough in my stash… It’s already been started, so if I need more fabric, I’ll wait till the next time I go to Joann’s to use my coupons and their sales.
  • Making the mini quilt for the Applique Mini Quilt Swap. I’m hoping to get all of it done, with the exception of the hand embroidery, this week. Wish me luck!

Have you used up any of your stash this past week? Or planing on doing so this coming week? Let us know!
